Each year, as part of its goal to support innovative interdisciplinary student work in global health research, the UTIHP presents the Discovery Fund, a scholarship program that aims to encourage undergraduate students from non-medical disciplines to engage with research in the field of international health. There are up to ten scholarships, each with a value of $3000, used to give undergraduate U of T students the experience of working on a structured health project in an international setting and under the supervision of a UofT faculty member. This initiative provides interested students with an invaluable opportunity to enhance their research skills and gain knowledge unavailable within regular courses.
In 2016, the Discovery Fund team will continue to improve the sustainability of the initiative by recruiting promising scholars and giving them opportunities to become further involved in the student body as well as by emphasizing strong research plans and ethical considerations as cornerstones of innovative and effective global health research.
To that end, many prospective candidates already demonstrated their enthusiasm for the initiative at the Discovery Fund Open House on Nov 24, 2015. If you were not able to attend fear not! Further events, including a seminar focusing on research methodology and ethics, are planned for Winter 2016.
The deadline for applications is February 29, 2016.
